LSU baseball vs Missouri score today: LSU hangs on to beat Mizzou, wins SEC series
BATON ROUGE — LSU baseball’s bullpen was leaking out free bases and untimely hits Saturday night like a dorm room’s A/C window unit on mid-summer’s day in Baton Rouge.
Between Conner Ware, William Schmidt, D.J. Primeaux and Casan Evans, the quartet allowed six combined walks and just two hits. Schmidt gave up two runs and LSU held to a 7-6 lead in the eighth inning.
After giving up a pair of walks himself in the top of the eighth, Evans rallied himself to strike out the next four batters he faced, rolling over into the ninth. Evans picked up his fourth save of the season as LSU survived Missouri, 7-6.
No. 1 LSU (19-1, 2-0 SEC) earned an SEC series win in its first of the season and will go for the series sweep over Mizzou (8-10, 0-2) Sunday afternoon (1 p.m., SEC Network+).
Is Michael Braswell back?
While the rest of LSU’s potent offense has spent the better part of the opening of the season crushing balls, Braswell has seen his batting average tumble more than 300 points to .171.
Sometimes you never know what will break you out of a slump. In his first two at-bats, coach Jay Johnson put on bunts for Braswell to move runners up. He laid both down perfectly, bringing in runs off each. His second bunt in the fourth when LSU trailed 4-3, allowed Steven Milam to score from third to tie the game.
His next at-bat, Braswell dropped one in over the shortstop’s head, scoring Milam again, a hit that extended LSU’s lead to 7-4 in the sixth.
Braswell finished the game 2 for 3 with a run and his three total RBIs were the difference for LSU.

BOT 7: Missouri has all the momentum right now. LSU goes three-up, three-down and it is clinging to 7-6 lead heading to the eighth.
TOP 7: Keegan Knutson hits his second homer of the night, this one off Schmidt. The solo shot trims LSU's lead to 7-5. DJ Primeaux enters the game for Schmidt and after Mizzou loads the bases off a walk, he gets Brock Daniels to ground into a double play but his team scores a run to cut the deficit to 7-6. Casan Evans comes in and gets the final out of the inning.
Sixth inning
BOT 6: Daniel Dickinson basehit and nothing else for LSU, which still leads 7-4.
TOP 6: LSU freshman pitcher William Schmidt comes in on relief. After walking the first batter he faced, he got the next batter to ground into a double play then he followed that up with a strikeout.
Fifth inning
BOT 5: Braswell with a two-out RBI, his first multi-hit game of the season as well as first first he's had more than one RBI. LSU lead is back up to three runs, 7-4.
TOP 5: Ware strikes out the last two batters of the inning. LSU takes 6-4 lead to bottom half.
Fourth inning
BOT 4: Another bunt from Braswell leads to a run which ties the game at 4. Mizzou misplayed the bunt, as no one was there to cover first. Curiel was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jared Jones with two outs. Jones comes through with a liner over the second baseman's head to retake the lead for LSU, 6-4. Pearson had a bases loaded opportunity two batters lead but grounded out to second to end the threat.
TOP 4: Keegan Knutson smokes a three-run homer off Eyanson to give Missouri its first lead tonight, 4-3. Eyanson is chased after giving up the three-run jack. Conner Ware comes into the game on relief. Ware gets the first batter he faces out.
Third inning
BOT 3: Nothing doing for LSU in the bottom half. LSU still up 3-1.
TOP 3: Missouri loaded the bases off what is believed to be a pitch clock violation. Next hitter, Cayden Nicoletto brought in a run off a sacrifice fly to center. Mizzou cuts into LSU's lead, which is now 3-1.
Second inning
BOT 2: Michael Braswell lays down a perfection squeeze bunt to score Jake Brown, who led off with a triple. LSU extends its lead to 3-0.
TOP 2: Anthony Eyanson is now up to three Ks through two innings. Another quick frame for the righthander. LSU leads 2-0.
First inning
- BOT 1: Senior Josh Pearson turned on an inside pitcher and sent it out the right field to give LSU the early lead, 2-0.
- TOP 1: We had two reviews in that first inning. Both calls were overturned. I'm not sure the confidence level from the crowd in the umpire crew is there right now. Regardless, this game is still scoreless heading to BOT 1. 0-0.
