Police are hunting for a man after the daylight sexual assault of a disabled teenage girl in Melbourne's south-east last month.

The 15-year-old girl, who has an intellectual disability, was walking along Chesterville Road in Cheltenham about 12.40pm on June 24 when she was approached by a man who spoke to her briefly, and then sexually assaulted her.

The man was described as Caucasian, aged between 30 and 40 and unshaven with short brown hair. He was wearing a baseball cap and a dark-coloured jumper.

Police have released a facefit image and CCTV footage of the man they want to speak to.

In a separate daytime incident in April, another 15-year-old girl was left traumatised after a man followed her off a tram. A 49-year-old Kew man was charged with stalking.
