NLL expansion draft: San Diego Seals pluck Mydske, Sorichetti from NLL champion Saskatchewan Rush

Two members of the National Lacrosse League champion Saskatchewan Rush were selected by the San Diego Seals in the NLL expansion draft.

Veteran defender Brett Mydske was taken Monday as San Diego’s second pick and fourth overall. Transition player Adrian Sorichetti was picked in the next round as San Diego’s third pick and sixth overall.

With the first pick in the expansion draft, the Philadelphia Wings selected Toronto Rock forward Brett Hickey. The Seals chose Rock forward Turner Evans as their first pick and second overall.

Under the rules of the expansion draft, existing NLL teams could lose a maximum of two players.

Mydske — an unrestricted free agent who could still sign with Saskatchewan unless San Diego declares him as their one “franchise” player — is one of four Rush players nominated for the NLL’s defensive player of the year award in 2018.

Sorichetti is one of four Rush players in the running for the 2018 NLL transition player of the year award.
