Malcolm-Jamal Warner was reportedly swimming with his 8-year-old daughter when he accidentally drowned during their Costa Rica vacation.

Surfers jumped into action to save the “Cosby Show” actor and his daughter on Monday after they noticed the pair struggling against the current, per ABC News.

One surfer managed to save Warner’s daughter by bringing her back to safety on his surfboard. Warner was pulled back to shore by a volunteer lifeguard and another surfer before he was given 45 minutes of CPR.

However, their efforts would prove to be too late. As we previously reported, Warner was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. He was 54.

His official cause of death was listed as asphyxiation by “submersion,” according to police.

Prior to his death, Warner notably kept his daughter and his wife out of the spotlight. He did not publicly disclose his daughter’s name.

However, he did reveal his daughter’s birthday in an Instagram clip shared on May 14 — months before his tragic passing.

“Just wanted to remind you as I remind myself that no matter what’s going on, there’s always a reason to smile,” he told his followers at the time.

He wore a Dodgers baseball cap and had a flower in his ear that was gifted to him by his daughter in the clip.

Warner’s death sent shockwaves through Hollywood, prompting many celebrities — including his former co-star Raven Symoné — to share touching tributes to the late actor.

“Words cannot express the pain and sadness and surprise that I feel with the recent loss of MJW,” Symoné, who played Olivia Kendall on “The Cosby Show,” said on Instagram Tuesday.

“He was the big brother, he was a beacon, he was one of the most multifaceted, talented men — so gentle,” she continued. “And my heart and soul and hugs and kisses go out to his daughter and his wife and his mother.”
