U.S.A. – Major League Baseball has opened a formal investigation into a heated exchange Saturday night between New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Atlanta Braves Bench Coach Eddie Pérez.

The incident took place during the sixth inning of New York’s 12–9 comeback win at Truist Park, in Georgia.

MLB is reportedly examining whether Pérez’s gesture–pointing at his own head–constituted a threat to have Chisholm hit by a pitch after after he thought the Yankees infielder was relaying signs from second base.

The sign‑relay itself is legal under MLB rules–as long as no electronic devices are used.

Chisholm took objection on the field, but Pérez has dismissed any malicious intent, saying he was merely telling Chisholm to “be smart” and “use his head.”

Chisholm declined comment, opting instead to focus on the field, where he went 2-4 in Sunday’s 4–2 win for the Yankees.

MLB now faces the task of determining whether Pérez’s gesture exceeded the boundary between strategic rivalry and threatening behavior.
