Wilson Weber’s jaw-dropping performance last week wasn’t just good. It was (tied for) the best in college baseball.

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Tuesday named the Oregon State Beavers’ starting catcher one of the Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Week, recognizing his blistering bat in four Beavers victories last week.

The 6-foot-1 senior had one of the best weeks in his four-year college career, going 8 for 17 with four home runs, 12 RBIs, five runs scored and three walks. He hit safely in all four games, which included two multi-hit efforts, as the Beavers went 3-0-1 against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and Big Ten-leading Iowa Hawkeyes.

The monster week start in impression fashion in Honolulu, as Weber went 2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBIs in a 7-3 win over Hawaii in the finale of a four-game series. And it ended nearly as well, as Weber hit a grand slam in a 6-6 tie in the series finale against the Hawkeyes in Des Moines, Iowa.

In between, Weber was a force. He went 4 for 5 with a homer run and go-ahead eighth-inning single in a 9-6 series-opening win over Iowa, then finished 1 for 4 with a walk and run scored in a 5-1 win in Game 2.

When it was all said and done, Weber hit .471 and produced a .550 on-base percentage and 1.176 slugging percentage during the four-game stretch. He’s hitting .327 with nine home runs, 45 RBIs and 34 runs scored this season.

The NCBWA named Weber its national co-hitter of the week alongside Southern Illinois infielder Matt Schark. Mississippi State junior Evan Siary was named national pitcher of the week.

Weber is the second Oregon State player to earn the honor this season, joining Aiva Arquette, who was national hitter of the week on April 15.
