The Northern 5A baseball regional tournament has a decisive favorite in Bishop Manogue.
The Miners are loaded with next-level players, including four who have already committed to Division I programs. Of the top-nine hitters in the Northern 5A during the regular season, six played for the Miners (each hit .388 or higher). The team also had two of the top four in ERA with Jackson Burgress (1.83) and Nevada-bound Wade Huntsman (1.91), who tied for the region lead with 49 strikeouts.
In 16 league games in which it went 14-2, Manogue outscored its opponents, 157-47, an average margin of victory of 6.9 runs per game. It averaged 9.8 runs per league contest, which are 2.55 more runs per game than Galena, which ranked second in league.
If Bishop Manogue is going to win the regional title, it likely must get past Reno, which beat the Miners in last year's regional championship game and takes the No. 2 seed into the playoffs. Reno was one of two local teams to beat Manogue this season, the other being Reed. Reno (2019, 2021, 2022, 2024) or Manogue (2018, 2023) have won each of the last six regional championships. The last team outside of those two to claim a title came in 2017 when Galena outlasted Spanish Springs.
Here are the MaxPreps state rankings of all eight teams in the bracket — Bishop Manogue (8), Reno (11), Spanish Springs (14), Galena (18), Reed (25), McQueen (26), Douglas (32) and Damonte Ranch (46).
