ARCHBOLD — Edgerton’s baseball team added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning and held off Archbold for a 5-4 victory in the first game of Saturday’s nonleague doubleheader before losing the second contest 2-1 at Memorial Park in Archbold.
In the first game, Kellen Sanchez tallied three RBIs and one double for the Bulldogs (7-6), who scored all five of their runs in the final three innings.
Braden Leppelmeier went 2-for-2 with two walks, a double, single and run while Maddox Baker scored twice with a single.
Parker Elden (single, RBI) got the win after five innings. He had no strikeouts, but only allowed three hits, two unearned runs and three walks. Scottie Krontz fired the last two frames with one strikeout, two hits, two earned runs and two walks.
Collin Short (two singles, one RBI) and Anderson Bentley (two runs, one single) led Archbold (7-4) offensively.
Isaiahs Gracia suffered the loss after two relief innings, firing three strikeouts with four hits, three earned runs, one hit batter and one walk. Ethan Bowman (single) got the start and went five frames and struck out nine with three hits, two unearned runs and four walks.
Sanchez went 2-for-4 in the second game with two singles. Cory Herman (run) and Mason Elden (RBI) each singled as well for the Bulldogs.
Noah Weaver suffered the loss after throwing the first four innings. He allowed five hits, two unearned runs and one walk. Mason Elden fired two no-hit innings with two walks as well.
Wyatt Cilne (single) earned the win for Archbold. He went six frames with nine strikeouts, seven hits, one earned run and two walks. Zach Short tossed a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts and one walk for the save.
Edgerton next visits Pettisville for nonconference play on Monday.
Toledo Christian 12, Edon 10; Liberty Center 7, Edon 0
EDON — Edon’s baseball team lost both of its games in Saturday’s Bomber Invitational at G. Kent Adams Field in Edon.
The Bombers (5-6) fell 12-10 to Toledo Christian after taking a 4-0 lead through one inning in a semifinal and lost 7-0 to Liberty Center (4-6) in the consolation game.
Wayne Trace (10-5) beat the Tigers 7-1 in a semifinal before toppling the Eagles 13-3 in six innings in the championship.
In Edon’s first game, Braedyn Wehrle went 3-for-4 with three singles, three runs and one RBI while Korbin Olds went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a double and single.
Kyler Sapp (two runs, two singles, one RBI), Zaine Stull (two singles, one RBI) and Zayne Oberlin (double, single, RBI) also chipped in for the Bombers.
Christian Owens (two runs, one single, one RBI) took the loss after five innings. He fanned eight batters with seven hits, nine runs (four earned) and two walks.
Kaid Hundley went 3-for-4 with three singles, three runs and one RBI for Toledo Christian (6-6) while Connor Egbert went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs, one double and one single. Tyler Grace also added a home run, double, two runs and an RBI on 2-for-5 hitting.
Josiah Rohman (run, single) got the win in 4 1/3 innings. He fanned three batters with nine hits, five earned runs and four walks. Grace also threw the last 2 2/3 innings with five strikeouts, five hits, five earned runs and four walks.
Max Radabaugh and Olds each singled twice for Edon’s lone hits in the consolation game. Olds also suffered the loss, going 5 1/3 innings with four strikeouts, seven hits, four runs (two earned) and two walks.
Will Fitzenreiter went 3-for-3 with three singles and two runs for the Tigers while Drew Silveus went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and single. Isaiah Badenhop also added a double, single and run.
Mason Smith (run) got the win on the bump. He threw five innings with five strikeouts and four walks.
Edon next visits Buckeye Border Conference foe Fayette on Monday.
Coldwater 3, Bryan 2
COLDWATER — Bryan’s baseball team plated two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead over Coldwater, the third-ranked team in Division V in the latest Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association poll.
But the state-ranked Golden Bears couldn’t hold the lead for long. The Cavaliers answered with a run in the bottom of the frame and another in the fifth to secure a 3-2 nonleague victory on Saturday at Veteran Field in Coldwater.
Jacob Uran (run) and Kole Batt each singled with an RBI for Bryan (7-5), which is the 10th-ranked team in Division IV in the latest OHSBCA poll. Cade Carlin also singled with a run.
Gavin Pittman suffered the loss after two relief innings. He fanned two batters with two hits, one unearned run and two walks. Jaymison Longoria fired the first four innings with one strikeout, four runs, two runs (one earned) and one walk.
Mason Smith earned the relief win after three frames for Coldwater (12-1). He struck out two batters with two hits. Aaron Kaup tossed the first four innings with two strikeouts, four hits, two earned runs and two walks.
Bryan next travels to play Swanton in Northwest Ohio Athletic League play on Monday.
