It took awhile, but the Cabrillo baseball team registered a win Wednesday night in its first game in the Central Coast Easter Tournament.
The Conquistadores edged Watsonville St. Francis 3-2 in nine innings under the lights at Cabrillo. The Conqs ran their record to 9-7. The Sharks were 9-8 at press time.
The tournament will run through Friday and is taking place at three sites, Cabrillo, Righetti and Pioneer Valley.
Cabrillo came from 2-0 down late to win it Wednesday night. The Conquistadores tied the game with two runs in the sixth inning before winning it with a run in the ninth.
Blake Gregory had three hits and the lone Cabrillo RBI. Gavin Rodriguez had two hits and scored a Cabrillo run.
Cabrillo starting pitcher Gabe Barraza and reliever Jacob Low combined on a five-hitter. Barraza blanked the Sharks on one hit during his three innings pitched. Low pitched the rest of the way.
At press time, Cabrillo was to play Modesto Central Catholic in another late tournament game at Cabrillo, Thursday at 7 p.m. The Conquistadores will finish their tournament appearance at Pioneer Valley Friday at 1 p.m.
Righetti 16, Torrance Bishop Montgomery 5
At their own ballpark, the Warriors (13-7) had scored a total of 33 runs in their first two tournament games at press time Thursday.
Righetti followed up a 17-9 win over Central Catholic in the Warriors' tournament opener Wednesday by racking up 16 more runs in the win over Bishop Montgomery (12-10) Thursday morning.
Riley Bassett had himself a day against Bishop Montgomery, hitting a grand slam to left field in the third inning and finishing with four hits and six RBIs. Besides the grand slam, Bassett also doubled twice.
Basset's slam put Righetti ahead for good after the Knights had taken a 4-3 lead after spotting Righetti three first-inning runs.
Righetti racked up 15 hits, and ten Warriors had at least one. Hadrian Roman, the No. 9 hitter in the Righetti lineup, racked up three hits and an RBI.
Israel Rocha pitched the last five innings in relief of Righetti starter Graysen Cole and blanked the Knights until the seventh inning. Pierce O'Brien doubled home Derek Peters with two outs. Caden Eallonardo singled then Rocha got pinch hitter Ryan Dickinson to fly to right field for the last out.

At press time, Righetti was slated to host La Quinta in a non-league game Thursday at 4:30 p.m. then play Pasadena Maranatha at Righetti Friday at 10 a.m. in the Warriors' last tournament appearance.
Bishop Montgomery 12, Pioneer Valley 1
Before falling to Righetti Thursday, the Knights routed the Panthers (7-10) in a tournament game at Pioneer Valley Wednesday. The game was called after six innings because of the run rule.
Matthew Orozco drove in three Bishop Montgomery runs, and Peters, Ethan Peterson and Shane Yanko all drove in two. Pierson Howe pitched a complete game and held the Panthers to three hits.
At press time, Bishop Montgomery was scheduled to play a tournament game against Lompoc at Cabrillo Thursday at 4 p.m. Pioneer Valley was scheduled to host St. Francis at the same time before hosting Cabrillo Friday in the Panthers' tournament finale.
Maranatha 8, Lompoc 2
The Minutemen (12-6-1) rolled to a tournament win over the Braves (11-7) at Cabrillo Wednesday.
Maranatha starter Zach Strickland no-hit Lompoc in his six innings pitched. Ronnie Munoz doubled in two runs off Minutemen reliever Bradley Loiacono for the Braves' only hit. Loiacono eventually got the last out.
Josh Proctor had three hits and drove in three Maranatha runs. Yahir Treto racked up four hits and two RBIs.
At press time, Lompoc was scheduled to finish its tournament appearance with two 4 p.m. games at Cabrillo, against Bishop Montgomery Thursday and against Central Catholic Friday.
