LSU baseball v NSU score today: LSU run-ruled by Northwestern State in shocking loss
BATON ROUGE – Sometimes weather delays help teams center, calm and reset their minds.
That was not the case on this particular Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium for LSU baseball.
The Tigers led Northwestern State, 2-0, in the third inning when the game was paused for lightning. After the game restarted, No. 7 LSU’s defense fell apart, committing three errors in the first couple of innings back and Northwestern State reaped the benefits.
NSU quickly put up six runs in the third en route to run-ruling LSU, 13-3, in the most surprising result of the season for both clubs.
Tuesday night’s loss to Northwestern State marks the first midweek loss for the Tigers on the season. They were 11-0.
LSU baseball bullpen gets rocked after lightning delay
Once the delay set in, LSU starter Jaden Noot’s night was done after two innings. Freshman Cooper Williams was the first reliever out of the pen once the game got back going and he plunked the first batter he faced to load the bases.
Rocco Gump lined a two-run single to shallow right that tied the game. Williams was pulled for Connor Benge, who proceeded to give up a three-run homer to Braden Benton as the Demons took the lead for the first time in the game.
It was going to a bullpen night for the Tigers and things did not pan out. Six pitchers pitched after Noot combining for 11 earned runs off seven hits with three walks.
Jared Jones experiment at third base backfires against Northwestern State
LSU star Jared Jones hasn’t played much at third base during his career at LSU and how things went for him against Northwestern State, it’s pretty clear why. Jones booted the ball twice and Demons scores off the miscues both times.
Jones has played a few innings at third in five games, including Tuesday night.
LSU baseball-Northwestern endures multiple delays
The start to the game was delayed 33 minutes to inclement weather. In the third inning, lightning was detected and seen in the are of the stadium and the game was paused for more than 90 minutes.
LSU led 2-0 in the third at the stoppage of play and that was the last time it led.
