BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games with an 11-3 midweek win over Tarleton Tuesday night at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Caden McCoy (3-1) earned the win in relief after working two scoreless frames to go along with three strikeouts. Clayton Freshcorn, Brad Rudis and Kaiden Wilson also registered scoreless outings for the Aggies (21-15).
Jace LaViolette led the way offensively with a 2-for-4 performance to go along with a homer and four RBI. Jamal George followed with a 2-for-4 night of his own and a season-best two RBI. Wyatt Henseler (2-for-5) and Caden Sorrell (2-for-4) also recorded multi-hit games for Texas A&M.
The Maroon & White posted a crooked number in the second to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. After working a leadoff walk, Bear Harrison later scored the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly by George. Terrence Kiel II followed with an RBI single to stretch the advantage to 2-0. On the play a fielding error by the Texans (15-23) allowed another Texas A&M run to cross the plate.
Kiel, who advanced to third on the error, later came home on an RBI single from LaViolette.
In the fourth, Tarleton cut the Aggie lead, 4-2, in half with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. The Maroon & White got the two runs back in the fifth behind a sac fly from Harrison and an RBI single from George.
After the Texans cut the lead in half with a solo homer in the sixth, Sorrell got the run back with an RBI single up the middle in the bottom half. In the seventh, the Aggie lead ballooned to 10-3 courtesy of a three-run opposite field homer from LaViolette. The long ball marked the 11th of the season for the junior and traveled 339 feet to left.
Later in the frame, Kaeden Kent added to the lead with a bases-loaded RBI walk to make the final 11-3.
