CASTLETON — The Vermont State University Castleton softball team ran its win streak to six games, sweeping a doubleheader with rival Norwich University, 8-0 and 10-0, Wednesday afternoon.
Alex Brouillette, a Missisquoi Valley product, was lights out in the first game, giving up just two hits and striking out seven in the five-inning run-rule win.
Jess Heinrichs homered in the first game for Castleton and drove in two runs. Abby Hacker also drive in a pair of runs for the Spartans. Mount Anthony alumna Masson Billert had three of Castleton’s 10 hits.
Castleton broke the second game open with an eight-run fourth inning, leading to a run-rule win in the fifth.
Brouillette homered and had two RBI in the victory. Francie McMahon and Kayleigh Osterhaudt had three RBI apiece, while Madison Gould drove in two runs.
Lauren Ross was the winning pitcher for Castleton, going four innings of two-hit ball with four strikeouts. Trista DeLong finished out the win in the circle.
Castleton (13-7) hosts Southern Maine for a doubleheader on Sunday.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Castleton 10, Plattsburgh 1
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The VTSU Castleton baseball team has hit its stride. The Spartans earned their fifth straight win, beating Plattsburgh State 10-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
Castleton took a lead in the third inning and broke it open in the seventh when it scored seven runs. Sammy Steinman and Jack Boyle drove in two runs apiece, while Tyler Dubreuil had three hits for the Spartans.
Luke Russell went the distance for Castleton with a pair of strikeouts and seven hits allowed.
The Spartans improved to 8-14.
GIRLS TENNIS
Brattleboro 4, MSJ 3
BRATTLEBORO — The Mount St. Joseph girls tennis team played Brattleboro tough, but fell 4-3 in the Mounties’ season opener on Wednesday.
No. 1 singles player Laney Hussak and No. 4 singles Mary K Gregory had wins for MSJ. The Mounties got a doubles win from freshmen Maddie Drude and Adeline Mihevc.
MSJ (0-1) is at Mount Anthony on Friday.

Postponement
The West Rutland baseball team’s home game against Mount St. Joseph was postponed from Wednesday to May 1.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Plymouth 28, Castleton 1
CASTLETON — The VTSU Castleton women’s lacrosse team struggled mightily, losing to Plymouth State 28-1 on Wednesday night at Dave Wolk Stadium.
The Panthers took a 12-1 lead after one quarter and never looked back.
Gianna Geraci had the only goal for the Spartans. Maddie Hunt dominated for PSU with 10 goals, while five others had at least three goals.
Castleton (2-10) is at Rhode Island College with a 3 p.m. start.
