CISSNA PARK — After suffering its first loss of the season on Friday, the Westville baseball team looked to take its frustrations out on a team.

That team was Cissna Park, who hosted the Tigers and lost 22-1 in three innings on Tuesday.

Easton Bolin had three hits with a home run and six RBIs for Westville, while Ben Johnson had three hits and four RBIs, Easton Barney had two hits and two RBIs, Matt Darling had two hits and one RBI and Cameron Steinbaugh, Chance Quick, Kiptyn Appl and Jace Smith each had one RBI.

Barney had five strikeouts and gave up only one hit on the mound for the Tigers, who are 5-1 and will face Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley today.

Bloomington 16, Danville 3

BLOOMINGTON — The Danville baseball team were able to tie up Tuesday's game with Bloomington 3-3 after the first inning.

After that, however, the Purple Raiders scored the next 13 runs as they picked up a 16-3 win over the Vikings.

Marvin Davis and Alex McQown each had one RBI for the Vikings, while Liam Enyeart had three strikeouts in three innings.

The Vikings are 0-5 and will travel to Hoopeston Area on Saturday.

Salt Fork 9, St. Thomas More 8

CATLIN — With a six-run fourth inning, the Salt Fork baseball team was able to hold off St. Thomas More 9-8 on Tuesday.

Brayden Norton had two hits and two RBIs, while winning pitcher Jameson Remole, Pedro Rangel IV, Pedro Rangel V, Eli Wear and Hayden Knight each had one RBI.

The Storm are 4-1 and will next play Monday against Hoopeston Area.

Oakwood 7, PBL 2

OAKWOOD — Tied 2-2 in the fifth, the Oakwood baseball team was able to come back, scoring the next five runs in a 7-2 win over Paxton-Buckley-Loda on Tuesday.

Jackson Dudley had two hits and two RBIs for the Comets, while Brandt Hobick had two RBIs and Riglee Hart and Xander Wilson each had two hits.

Wilson had eight strikeouts on the mound for Oakwood, who are 4-6 and will face Heritage today.

Cornerstone 5, Schlarman 3

BLOOMINGTON — The Schlarman baseball team was able to fight back in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead.

But host Cornerstone Christian scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and would get a 5-3 win on Tuesday.

Grayson Kruger had the lone RBI for the Hilltoppers, while Liam Billings had three hits and Wrigley O'Brien had eight strikeouts on the mound to start and Miles Crosby had two strikeouts in relief.

The Hilltoppers are 0-2 and will face Paris on Friday.

GCMS 15, Hoopeston Area 0

GIBSON CITY — The Hoopeston Area baseball team had a rough road trip on Tuesday.

The Cornjerkers found themselves down 9-0 in the first inning and would lose 15-0 in four innings.

Cole Miller had the only hit for Hoopeston Area, while Dylan Judy took the loss on the mound. The Cornjerkers are 3-7 and will face Colfax Ridgeview today.

PREP SOFTBALL

Charleston 9, Danville 8

CHARLESTON — The Danville softball had a big lead going into the seventh inning against Charleston, but could not hold on in a 9-8 defeat on Tuesday.

The Vikings had a seven-run first inning with Olivia Scaggs and Ava Foster each getting two-RBI singles, while Ka'Leah Bellik had an RBI single and Payton Beith and Deana Linares each drove in runs on bases loaded walks.

Danville had a 8-4 lead, but Charleston scored five runs in the seventh inning and was topped off with an two-RBI single by Rylee Lewis.

The Vikings are 2-3 and will start action at the Rantoul Tournament on Friday against Pekin.

Westville 20, Urbana 1

WESTVILLE — The Westville softball team once again made quick work of an opponent on Tuesday, getting 19 hits in a 20-1 win over Urbana.

Winning pitcher Lily Kiesel had a home run, three doubles and two RBIs at the plate and eight strikeouts on the mound for the Tigers, while Daylin Zaayer and Laney Cook each had a home run and four RBIs, Jazmyn Bennett and Taylor Valangeon each had two RBIs, Lani Gondzur had three hits and a RBI, Peyton Sabalaksey and Dannika Hamer each had a solo home run and Madison Jones had a triple and a RBI.

Westville is 8-1 and will play Champaign Centennial today.

Salt Fork 22, Heritage 0

BROADLANDS — The Salt Fork softball team made an impact from the start of Tuesday's game with Heritage.

The Storm scored 11 runs in the first inning and went on to a 22-0 win in four innings over the Hawks.

Bella Kurtenbach had three hits and two RBIs for Salt Fork, while Alexa Jamison and Brilynn Barnett each had two hits and three RBIs, winning pitcher Morgan Russell had two hits and two RBIs, Sailor Pacot had two RBIs, Karli McGee, Michelle Ford, Lainey Ehler and Annalise Chambliss each had one RBI and Ava Ringstrom had two hits.

Russell had five strikeouts and gave up only one hit for the Storm, who are 7-1 and will face LeRoy on Saturday.

Oakwood/Schlarman 16, Tri-County 1

KANSAS — The Oakwood/Schlarman Academy softball team had its best offensive output of the season so far on Tuesday.

The Comets had 20 hits as they beat Tri-County 16-1 in four innings.

Irene Rangel had the best offensive day with three home runs — including a grand slam — and 11 RBIs, while Caydence Vermillion had two hits and two RBIS, Gracie Hanner and Sam Dunavan each had three hits and a RBI, Lainee Smith had two hits with a home run and an RBI and Bella Bradford had two hits.

Vermillion had four strikeouts on the mound for the Comets, who are 3-4-1 and will play Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond today.

Villa Grove 7, Geo-RF 3

VILLA GROVE — The Georgetown-Ridge Farm softball team took an early lead, but could not hold on to it in a 7-3 loss to Villa Grove on Tuesday.

Chloe Stephenson had two hits and an RBI for the Buffaloes, who out-hit Villa Grove 6-5, while Annistyn Tovey had an RBI and Peyton McComas had two hits. 

Stephenson had six strikeouts on the mound for the Buffaloes, who are 2-5 and will play Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond on Friday.

Leroy 15, Armstrong-Potomac 6

LEROY — The Armstrong-Potomac softball team was able to get a lead, but could not hold on against LeRoy on Tuesday.

The Trojans took a 6-5 lead in the fourth, but the Panthers scored four in the fourth and went on to win 15-6.

Tinley Parkerson had two hits with a home run and two RBIs, while Carly Grant had a home run and two RBIs and Acasia Gernentz had two hits and seven strikeouts on the mound.

The Trojans are 4-1 and will play Rantoul today.

A-P competes at Watseka

WATSEKA — The Armstrong-Potomac track teams were able to have some moments on Tuesday at the Watseka Coed meet.

The boys team ended up tied for third as Nathaniel Burd won the 100 meter dash in 12.55 seconds and was second in the long jump in an attempt of 5.74 meters.

Issac Kennel was second in the high jump (1.67m) and eighth in the discus (24.63m), while Ethan Holden was fourth in the 100 (12.98), Miles Learnard was fifth in the 200 (26.89) and 400 (1:00) and Jaiden Burd was sixth in the long jump (5.05m) and seventh in the 200 (28.32). The 400 relay team of Holden, Gage Foster, Jaiden Burd and Nathaniel Burd was second (47.96) and the 1,600 team of Foster, Samuel Lanter, Kennel and Holden was also second (3:55).

In the girls meet, Kayla Wernigk won the 3,200 (14:29) for the Trojans, while Aleyah Carley was seventh in the 100 hurdles (22.76) and fifth in the 300 (1:11.80), Adisyn McCarty was sixth in discus (26.18m) and ninth in shot put (7.98m), Addyson Tholl was seventh in the 400 (1:14.29) and Aubrey Self was ninth in the 800 (3:11).

Oakwood boys, BHRA girls win out

HOOPESTON — Oakwood claimed nine events with Connor Smith and Kyler Johnson each earning a pair of first-place finishes to lead the Comets to a victory in a five-team meet in Hoopeston on Monday.

Smith won the 100- and 200-meter races, while Johnson claimed the 110 hurdles and the shot put events. Other individual winners for Oakwood were Thomas Wells (400), Trevor McCall (300 hurdles), Nathan Young (high jump) and Sailer Harrison (triple jump)

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin was second with individual victories from Dylan Davis (long jump) and Connor Powell (discus).

Hoopeston Area finished third with Keenon Anderson (400), Eli Hasting (1,600) and Owen Garrett (3,200) winning individual events.

In the girls meet, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin won 14 of 17 events on its way to claiming the four-team meet.

Natalie Thomason won three individual events for the Blue Devils, taking first in the 400 meters, high jump and triple jump, while Aleah Potter won the 800 and 1,600 races and Emily Dice was first in the 200 and 300 hurdles.

Bis-Henn/Ross-Al also won all four relay events.

Oakwood, which finished second, got individual victories from Quinn Sperry (shot put) and Mady Nicoson (discus) and the host, Hoopeston Area, got a first from Claire Dixon in the triple jump.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Lewis & Clark 11, DACC 3

MATTOON — The Danville Area Community College baseball team played a makeup game with Lewis & Clark Community College on Tuesday at Lake Land College.

The Jaguars were down 4-0 in the sixth and could not get any close in a 11-3 defeat.

Ethan Durbin and Braxton Waller each had two hits and one RBI, while Chris Lewis had three hits, Issac Murray had two hits and Alex Fernandez had an RBI.

The Jaguars are 5-12 and will travel to Parkland College on Saturday.
