Battle baseball picked up a 5-3 road win over Central Missouri Activities Conference foe Helias on Wednesday at the Legion Sports Complex in Jefferson City.

The Spartans trailed 3-1 after five innings, and it looked as if they might get swept in the two-game series against the Crusaders (2-4, 1-1) after falling 4-3 on Tuesday in Columbia. But a four-run outburst in the later inning allowed Battle to salvage a split.

Battle (3-4, 1-1) will next take the field against Capital City (3-6, 0-2) at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Jefferson City.

Hickman baseball sweeps Capital City

Hickman baseball remained undefeated all time against Capital City with a 5-3 win at Kent Fewell Field in Columbia. The Kewpies have won all five meetings with the Cavaliers.

Senior Landon Shaon led the Kewpies (6-2, 2-0) with two hits, including a triple, and junior Landen Durnil had a double.

Senior Kyle Hanes started and lasted four innings for Hickman. Sophomores Akiva Clifton and Kai Stubbs and senior Jack Brennaman pitched in relief.

Hickman will next hit the road to face Joplin at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Tolton boys tennis routed by Moberly

Tolton boys tennis suffered an 8-1 road loss to Moberly.

In the teams’ last meeting prior to Wednesday, the Trailblazers swept the Spartans (5-0) in the MSHSAA Class 1 quarterfinals May 15 in Mexico, Missouri.

Tolton (2-1) will next host Hannibal at 4 p.m. Thursday at Cosmo Park.

Battle/Tolton, Hickman boys volleyball falter

Battle/Tolton boys volleyball suffered a 2-0 (25-18, 15-10) loss to Lee’s Summit North and fell 2-0 to Grain Valley (25-20, 25-15) in the Lee’s Summit North Quad in Lee’s Summit.

Hickman fell 2-0 (25-8, 25-8) to the host Broncos, but there was no reported score for the Kewpies’ matchup against Grain Valley.

The Spartans will next take the court against Warrenton at 6 p.m. Friday in Columbia. Hickman will next play Lee’s Summit in the Nixa Quad at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Nixa.
