Coshocton baseball fends off River View in rainy matchup | Top performers

WARSAW — Jace Dickerson and Jerison Spain had two hits and a RBI, as Coshocton fended off rival River View 4-3 in a non-league baseball game on a rainy Thursday.

Spain hit a RBI double and JJ Herman singled home a run in the top of the second for Coshocton, but the Black Bears tied it at in the home half after Blaze Klein tripled home a run then scored on Chase Wright's single.

Dickerson's two-out RBI single in the third put Coshocton ahead for good, and Parker Loomis' sac fly brought in Spain in the fourth for a 4-2 lead.

River View, which left the bases loaded in the fourth, cut the lead to one on Luke Massie's RBI single with two outs in the seventh, but a groundout by the next batter ended the game.

Calan Shaw went the distance for the victory, allowing five hits, striking out four and walking three, while Maguire Werntz went the first four innings for the loss, scattering six hits, fanning four and walking two.

Lacrosse

John Glenn 15, Gahanna Lincoln 4: Cannon Fox and Evan Haney each scored 4 goals to lead the Muskies to 5-0 on the season.

Max Morrow added two goals, two assists and turned in a 15/21 effort in faceoffs. JG goal keeper Zach Hallowell collected 8 saves.

Wednesday's results

Baseball

Sheridan 5, Zanesville 2: Brody White slugged a double and single and tossed 2 1/3 innings of relief in the Generals' victory at Jay Payton Field.

The win was the first for new Generals coach Josh Coleman, who took over for Hall of Fame coach Doug Fisher in March. Connor Roshon added a homer and single and Tyler Turnes pitched 4 2/3 innings to get the win.

Canon Mercer launched a solo homer for Zanesville. Maddox Mohler took the loss.

Logan 11, West Muskingum 8: Wes Houston blasted two homers and drove in five in a losing cause for the Tornadoes in a nonleague game in Falls Township.

Houston also singled and Sam Wiseman doubled with two singles for West, which had four errors in falling behind 9-2 after two innings. Wiseman also pitched four scoreless innings.

Indian Valley 3, Ridgewood 1: Maison Kiser tossed a complete game in a losing cause for the Generals, who were held to three hits by Braves starter Deagan Beaber in an Inter-Valley Conference-South Division clash in Gnadenhutten.

Beaber, who struck out eight, also had three singles and stole two bases. Indian Valley scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to break a 1-all tie.

No player had more than a single for Ridgewood.

Garaway 2, River View 1 (8 inn.): Cooper Gintz squeezed home the go-ahead run in the eighth as the Pirates outlasted the host Black Bears in a pitcher's duel at Ron Tisko Field.

Cole Greenwalt allowed three hits and didn't yield an earned run in seven innings for River View, striking out nine. Kydron Snow drove in the team's only run with a single in the fourth to tie the game at 1.

Cols. Wellington 6, Rosecrans 5: The Bishops scored five times over the final two innings but couldn't complete the comeback in a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division road clash.

Hayden Perdue slugged a double and pitched 5 1/3 innings for Rosecrans, which had five hits and drew five walks. Coen Grandstaff added two singles.

Cambridge 2,0, Bellaire 0, 10: The Bobcats (2-2) split a Buckeye 8 doubleheader with the Big Reds.

Dawson Geese pitched a complete game shutout allowing only two hits with 11 strikeouts in the Game 1 win. Freshman Tate Sikora doubled and Camdyn Lauer collected an RBI single.

In the fourth, Garrett Carpenter beat out a grounder to short of an infield single to start the inning. Geese followed with a single that scored Carpenter. In the fifth, Tate Sikora doubled on a line drive down the leftfield line and scored on a Camdyn Lauer single to center field to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.

In the second game, Bellaire had four singles and took advantage of six Cambridge errors. Blaize Barlow and Konner McIntire pitched two innings for the Bobcats giving up a total of three earned runs.

Softball

West Muskingum 11, Meadowbrook 10: Kyanna Bowers drove in the game-winning run in the seventh for the host Tornadoes, rallied from a 10-4 deficit over the final two innings in an MVL-Small School Division home win.

Bowers finished 4-for-5 with five RBIs — two of her hits were doubles. Addy Antonetz and Daylee Foster had two doubles and a single; Kadie Bare got the win in relief.

Sommer Ginn hit two homers with three RBIs to pace Meadowbrook. Natalee Norman double and singled.

Crooksville 18, Maysville 2: Paige Frame drove in three runs and Dalena Rollison had three of the Ceramics' 11 hits in a dominant effort against the Panthers in Newton Township.

Frame had a double and single and Mylin Driggs belted a homer and scored three times for Crooksville, which improved to 8-0.

New Lexington 15, Coshocton 2 (5 inn.): Caroline Dupler drove in three runs with a double and two singles to pace the Panthers in an MVL-Small School rout in New Lexington.

Alexandra Pyle added four RBIs and Ava Gleason a double and single for New Lex; Mia Metzger struck out seven to get the win.

Sierra Gambill doubled and singled for Coshocton.

Minerva 8, River View 7: Kayla McPeak cracked a double and single in a losing effort for the visiting Lady Bears, who couldn't overcome nine errors, five walks and four wild pitches in a nonleague game.

Joann Thompson added two singles with an RBI for River View, which led 8-5 after five innings before Minerva rallied with two runs in the sixth and seventh to earn the win. The Lions overcame nine errors.

Bellaire 8, Cambridge 5: The Bobcats were outhit, 15-5, in a Buckeye 8 loss at Cambridge City Park.

Laney Harper had two hits while Cami Moore, Taylor Warden, and Miranda Cole each had a single for Cambridge (1-4).

Boys Tennis

Newark 4, Zanesville 1: No. 3 singles Subh Patel downed Kellen Grace 7-6, 6-1 for the Blue Devils' only win.

No. 1 singles Connor Baldwin dropped a 3-6, 4-6 match to Newark's Evan Devries, No. 2 singles Karter Bludnick lost a 6-4, 2-6, 8-10 super-tiebreaker to Layton Shaner, No. 1 doubles Steven Morrison and Dhruv Patel dropped a 3-6, 4-6 match to Grayson Boyer and Victor Gleckler, and No. 2 doubles Isaac Devries and Brad Pastorius defeated Zanesville's Adres Limon and Clifton Birchett 1-6, 4-6.
