SALT LAKE CITY— The Utah Hockey Club drew first blood in a fast-paced first period with Kevin Stenlund rocketing a shot into the net for a 1-0 lead.

Utah HC (33-29-12, 78 points) is hosting the Flames (35-26-12, 82 points) at Delta Center on Tuesday, April 1. Utah is 2-0 against Calgary this season. The club handed Calgary a 5-3 loss in Canada on January 2. The Flames fell 5-1 in Salt Lake City on October 30, 2024.

With seven regular-season games left for the inaugural franchise, Calgary is five points behind the St. Louis Blues for the second Western Conference Wild Card. Utah is 5-4-1 in its past ten games, while the Flames are 5-3-2. St. Louis has won nine straight games to take a stranglehold on the final playoff spot.

Calgary seized the early momentum, but Utah battled back with hard-nosed hockey.

With 2:14 left in the first 20, Alexander Kerfoot kept the puck alive in the corner, creating an offensive push. Kerfoot whipped a pass to Stenlund in the slot. Stenlund one-timed a rocket past Dustin Wolf for a goal.

Utah and Calgary generated 12 shots each. Utah HC outhit the Flames 13-11.
