SEC baseball: Tennessee, Arkansas keep rolling

Tony Vitello and the defending national champion Tennessee Vols completed a series sweep of South Carolina. 

No. 1 Tennessee 7, South Carolina 2: COLUMBIA, S.C. – Hunter Ensley was 4-for-5 batting with three runs batted in. His two-run single in a three-run fourth inning gave the Vols (26-2, 8-1) a 2-1 lead. He teamed up with Andrew Fischer for back-to-back homers in the seventh inning. Tennessee had 12 hits, four of them in the fifth with Dalton Bargo and Reese Chapman each driving in runs. Brayden Krenzel (2-0) allowed four hits in five innings of relief to get the victory. He struck out four and walked two.

All nine starters for the Gamecocks (17-12, 1-8) had hits with Kennedy Jones having two.

The Vols will play the Aggies next.

No. 11 Alabama 8, No. 9 Oklahoma 6: TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide (25-4, 6-3) built up an 8-1 lead after four innings.

Jason Torres had a three-run homer in the first inning. That was the only hit as Alabama took advantage of a walk and hit batter. The Crimson Tide scored three runs in the fourth inning, two of them unearned because of two OU errors. Alabama used six pitchers with Braylon Myers (3-0) getting the victory by retiring the only two batters he faced. Carson Ozmer had a hitless ninth for his seventh save.

OU (22-5, 5-4) had homers by Dayton Tockey and Jason Walk.

No. 2 Arkansas 7, No. 13 Vanderbilt 3: NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Razorbacks (26-3, 8-1) scored five runs in the eighth inning to wipe out a one-run deficit. Charles Davalan tied it with a leadoff homer and an out later, Logan Maxwell hit a homer to break the 3-3 deadlock. Arkansas with two outs, loaded the bases on a single and two walks. A wild pitch made it 5-3 and Nolan Souza added a two-run single.

Ben Bybee (3-0) got the victory with four shutout innings, allowing two hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Vandy’s Colin Barczi hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning. He had two hits as did Riley Nelson, while Jonathan Vastine was 4 for 4.  

The Commodores (20-8, 4-5) lost their third straight at home after starting 16-0.

Late Friday

LSU 17, Mississippi State 8: BATON ROUGE, La. – Jared Jones had a two-run homer and RBI single in an eight-run first inning. LSU (26-3, 7-2) had 19 hits, three each by Chris Stanfield, Daniel Dickinson and Luis Hernandez who had a homer. Conner Ware (4-0) got the victory with one inning of work.

Hunter Hines hit a homer for the Bulldogs (16-12, 1-8). Dylan Cupp added two hits and three RBIs.

The game didn’t start until 9:36 p.m., because of weather.
