William & Mary won one of the wildest games in Plumeri Park history, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge Hofstra 16-15 Sunday for a three-game sweep.
Jamie Laskofski’s two-out, two-run single on a 3-2 pitch scored Christian Rush and Lucas Carmichael with the tying and winning runs.
W&M (10-17, 4-2 Coastal Athletic Association) and Hofstra (10-17, 2-4) combined for 30 hits, five errors and 14 pitching appearances in a 4-hour, 13-minute game.
A five-run seventh inning put the Tribe ahead 13-7, but Hofstra (10-17, 2-4) retaliated for eight runs in the eighth to move ahead 15-13.
In the ninth, Ben Parker and Anthony Greco singled. Carmichael hit a fielder’s-choice grounder for the first out, but a throwing error allowed Parker to score. Rush was hit by a pitch, Derek Holmes flied out to center, but Rush made his way to second and joined Rush in scoring on Laskofski’s fourth hit of the game.
Holmes, Rush and Parker drove in three runs each. Carmichael and Rush scored three apiece. Hofstra’s Tyler Cox was 3 for 5 with a homer, four runs and five RBIs.
Virginia Tech 6, No. 16 Wake Forest 5: Trailing 3-2 after eight innings, the Hokies (20-8, 7-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) plated four runs in the ninth and held on to complete a three-game series sweep of the Demon Deacons (20-9, 7-5). It was Tech’s first road sweep of a top-25 opponent since 2021.
Hudson Lutterman hit a tying RBI double, David Lewis hit a go-ahead RBI single, Jared Davis hit a sacrifice fly and Ben Watson hit a sacrifice fly to complete the uprising.
Le Moyne 14, Norfolk State 9: The Dolphins (8-15, 7-2 Northeast Conference) completed a three-game sweep in a series moved to Norfolk because inclement weather was predicted at Le Moyne’s home field in Syracuse, New York.
NSU (1-21, 1-11) trailed 9-3 before scoring six runs in the top of the eighth. Justin Journette hit his ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot, and Brendan Burke’s two-run homer tied the score.
But Le Moyne, batting last, replied with five in the bottom of the eighth. Four walks allowed the tie-breaking run to score, and errors contributed to the onslaught.
Jalan Jones was 4 for 5 for NSU, and Robert Beatty was 2 for 2 with a solo homer and two RBIs. Le Moyne’s Ethan Farina was 3 for 5 with two runs and three RBIs.
