No. 21 CCU baseball rolls past Texas State, 10-3, grabs series win

SAN MARCOS, T.X. (WMBF) - No. 21 Coastal Carolina capped off its longest road swing of the season in commanding fashion Sunday afternoon, defeating Texas State 10-3 at Bobcat Ballpark to take the weekend series and close the eight-game road trip with a 5-3 record.
The Chanticleers (20-8, 6-3 Sun Belt) were powered by another strong start on the mound, this time from right-hander Riley Eikhoff, who struck out eight over seven innings of one-run ball without issuing a walk. Eikhoff (5-1) scattered five hits and threw 73 of his 99 pitches for strikes.
The win marked a dominant weekend for Coastal’s starting rotation, which combined to pitch 21 1/3 innings while allowing just one run, striking out 26 and issuing zero walks.
Offensively, Dean Mihos sparked the attack from the bottom of the order — following a lineup change by Head Coach Kevin Schnall — with two hits, two runs scored and his third stolen base of the season. Mihos had led off for the previous 27 games this season. Sebastian Alexander broke the game open with a three-run homer in the ninth, his fourth of the year, and finished with three RBIs.
The Chants took control with a three-run third inning, highlighted by RBI from Ty Dooley and Walker Mitchell. They added on with two more in the fourth and another in the sixth, capitalizing on Texas State miscues including three errors and a pair of wild pitches.
Coastal relievers Scott Doran and Ryan Lynch finished off the final two frames, with Lynch striking out two in a scoreless ninth.
Texas State (12-15, 4-5) managed eight hits but couldn’t solve Coastal’s pitching for most of the afternoon. Starter Jackson Teer (1-5) allowed five runs (four earned) over 3 1/3 innings and took the loss.
NOTEBOOK: Coastal Carolina 10, Texas State 3
Chants’ starters dominate: Coastal Carolina’s weekend starters were untouchable in San Marcos. Across three games, the Chants’ starting pitchers logged 21.1 innings, struck out 26, and allowed just one earned run — all without issuing a single walk.
Eikhoff continues elite form: Riley Eikhoff delivered his fifth win of the season with a clinical performance. He didn’t allow a free pass, struck out eight, and threw nearly three-quarters of his pitches for strikes. The junior right-hander lowered his season ERA and now leads the team in wins.
Mihos energizes the offense: Center fielder Dean Mihos reached base three times, scored three runs, and stole a base. His third-inning single and leadoff double in the fourth both set the table for key scoring innings. He also reached via walk and advanced all the way to third on a steal and error in the eighth.
Alexander’s big blast: Sebastian Alexander sealed the win with a towering three-run home run in the ninth inning, his fourth of the year. The junior left fielder is tied for the team lead with nine RBIs during conference play.
