After undergoing heart surgery earlier this year, Max George has made a remarkable recovery as he has shared a major milestone with his fans a few months on.

Last December, The Wanted singer was rushed to hospital after his mother alarmingly noticed that he had turned blue. Tests revealed that Max's heart was dangerously weak, which lead to him getting a pacemaker fitted before Christmas.

Now, after a period of rest and rehabilitation, the 36-year-old has made a powerful return to the stage as he is currently touring the UK in Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds, reports the Mirror.

Alongside his girlfriend Maisie Smith, the couple kicked off their highly anticipated arena tour in Hull. The show will tour until April 20, and will include stops in Liverpool, Nottingham, Birmingham and London.

In the show, Max plays the role of Parson Nathaniel, while Maisie features as his on-stage wife, Beth. Before the debut performance, the former Strictly star shared a clip on social media revealing his gorey stage makeup.

In the clip Max surprised many followers who were unfamiliar with his character as he can be seen covered in fake blood and bruises. He captioned the post: "Stage time..."

While there was a period of time where it was unclear if Max would be able to participate in the show due to his health struggles, he confirmed last week that he had recovered enough to perform throughout the tour.

In an Instagram post, he said: "It’s been a long road since December... but we got here! Currently in rehearsals for Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds, and it’s gonna be EPIC. Another arena tour to tick off the bucket list... including the Co-op Live Arena in my hometown for the first time."

Max reflected on this tough journey over the past few months, admitting that his recovery has been "rough" at times. However, with a new spring in this step, Max emphasised how grateful he is to be feeling better and is ready to light up the arena stage. He added: "I’m back to my best and will be performing throughout the whole tour."

He also mentioned how excited he is to be performing alongside Maisie, saying: "Getting to do this with Maisie is an experience I’m sure I’ll never forget." The couple first met in the 2020 series of Strictly Come Dancing, but didn't start dating until two years later during the live tour.

Maisie, 23, has been a rock at Max's side throughout his recovery, offering unwavering support as the singer went through his second heart operation in February. Due to this operation, Max sadly had to cancel a live show with The Wanted's new two-member lineup, featuring bandmate Siva Kaneswaran.

Max expressed his disappointment to fans, explaining: "My second heart op has just set me back a little bit with my recovery, and I’m just not going to be well enough in time."

However, he reassured his fans that the performance would be rescheduled and that he and Siva are "working out when we're gonna do it".

He also expressed how grateful he was for his bandmates' support during the difficult time: "Siva’s been awesome, as always, and we can’t wait to get this venture going. It’s a bummer, but I’ll see you very, very soon."
