Logan Hughes, Garet Boehm homers not enough in Texas Tech baseball loss at Kansas State

Keegan O'Connor capped a four-run third inning with a two-run single, and James Guyette pitched a scoreless 4 2/3 innings in relief, leading Big 12 leader Kansas State over the Texas Tech baseball team 6-3 Saturday.
Dee Kennedy hit a leadoff homer in the first inning for Kansas State (18-8, 7-1 in the Big 12), which has beaten Texas Tech (8-15, 4-4) in the first two games of the three-game series.
All the runs came in the first five innings. Guyette (2-1) retired 13 of the 17 batters he faced, allowing a single, a walk and a hit batsman. In the ninth, T.J. Pompey walked with one out, and Coleman Ryan reached on a two-out error, but Guyette struck out Kyeler Thompson.
Logan Hughes and Garet Boehm homered for Tech in the fourth inning, and Damian Bravo's RBI single in the fifth narrowed the gap to 5-3.
Tech starting pitcher Tyler Boudreau (1-1) lasted 2 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on four hits and three walks. Jack Cebert struck out five and gave up a run in 3 2/3 innings, and Logan Bevis retired all five batters he faced, striking out three.
The series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at Tointon Family Stadium.

Texas Tech got within 5-3 in the fifth as Coleman Ryan doubled leading off and scored on Damian Bravo's one-out single. Kansas State got the run back in the bottom of the fifth when A.J. Evasco homered off Jack Cebert leading off.
Middle of 4th inning: Kansas State 5, Texas Tech 2
Logan Hughes and Garet Boehm homered in the fourth inning for the Red Raiders. Hughes' homer, his team-leading eighth of the season, was an opposite-field, leadoff blast to left. Boehm's homer, his second, was a one-out shot to center.
End of 3rd inning: Kansas State 5, Texas Tech 0
Kansas State's Dee Kennedy homered leading off the bottom of the first. The Wildcats added four runs in the third inning on A.J. Evasco's RBI single, Seth Dardar's sacrifice fly and Keegan O'Connor's two-run single.
The five runs, all earned, were charged to Tech starter Tyler Boudreau, who allowed four hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings. O'Connor greeted reliever Jack Cebert with the hit that padded the lead before Cebert struck out Kyan Lodice to end the inning.
