The Oasis Academy baseball team swept another series to stay undefeated.

After taking down Incline to open the season, the Bighorns defeated Sierra Lutheran, 13-1, last Tuesday before sweeping Saturday’s doubleheader, 8-6 and 11-1, in Fallon.

Oasis Academy hosts Battle Mountain at 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday. The Bighorns softball team didn’t play last week but it also hosts Battle Mountain this weekend.

The pitching duo of Fenn Mackedon and Ryder McNabb shut down Sierra Lutheran in the series opener in Carson City. Mackedon didn’t allow a hit or walk in two innings while striking out four, and McNabb struck out six and gave up two hits in three innings.

Joshua Gusewelle and Trevor Barrenchea each had three hits, while Gusewelle led the team with three RBIs. Zachary Budner, Matthew Bird, Kayden White, Mackedon and McNabb each had two hits, and Barrenchea, Budner and McNabb each drove in two. Gusewelle led the team on the basepaths with two steals.

Saturday’s doubleheader opener was the closest game in the series after Sierra Lutheran scored three in the final inning.

The Bighorns led 6-2 after five innings before scoring two more in the following inning.

Budner led the team with three hits, including a double and two RBIs, and White doubled and tripled. Bird, McNabb and Mackedon each had two hits with Bird also doubling and driving in two.

The Bighorns swiped 10 bags, with Barrenchea leading the team with three stolen bases.

On the hill, White, Bird and McNabb combined efforts. Bird struck out six in three innings, while White had three strikeouts in the first three innings. McNabb pitched the final inning.

After the first two innings yielded no runs, Oasis Academy scored 10 in the third and fourth innings to end the series finale by the mercy rule in the fifth.

Bird, Budner, Mackedon and McNabb each had two hits, but it was Mackedon’s bat that did the most damage. The senior also doubled and drove in a team-high five runs. Bird drove in three on two doubles and Budner had two RBIs and two doubles.

Mackedon pitched four innings, striking out four and giving up two hits and a run, while Budner struck out one in an inning.
