Arkansas State baseball (9-10, 2-1 SBC) clinched their first series victory to open conference play since 2019, downing Marshall (11-9, 1-2 SBC) 9-1 on Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.

Jack Hibbard (3-1) made his fifth start of the season, surrendering only one run (unearned) on four hits while striking out nine batters in his second complete game of the season. The righty joins Ryan Marohn of NC State as the only pitchers to throw multiple complete games this season.

At the plate, Cross Jumper finished 3-for-5 and tied a career high with four RBIs while Cason Tollett also notched three hits. The Scarlet and Black finished with 11 hits, including four doubles and a home run from Drake Anderson.

Marshall took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but a two-run double from Patrick Engskov paired with an RBI from Anderson put A-State ahead in the next frame.

The Red Wolves struck again in the fourth when Jumper fired a two-run single through the left side, extending the lead to four runs. Tollett batted in Wil French with a knock to right field and pushed the lead to 6-1.

Anderson fired a 344-foot shot over the left-field wall in the fifth, and Jumper capped the scoring with a two-run double in the eighth to make the score 9-1.

The Thundering Herd could not mount a rally as A-State claimed the win and the series. Hibbard earned the win while Fenix DiGiacomo (1-3) took the loss.
