WINCHESTER — A five-run third inning gave the Shenandoah University baseball team the lead for good in an 8-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Virginia Wesleyan on Friday.
The game was tied 2-2 after the Hornets (11-5, 3-1) scored two runs in the top of the first inning and Virginia Wesleyan (4-5, 0-3) answered with two runs in the top of the third inning. SU took a 7-2 lead in the bottom half of the frame on one hit batter and four hits, with Brody Pickette's three-run home run closing the scoring in the inning.
Parker Farrington (3-0) pitched five innings, allowing four hits, two runs (both on solo home runs) and one walk while striking out two batters. Liam Stewart pitched the final four innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out seven to record the first save of his collegiate career.
SU was also led by Cole Ambrosius (1 for 3, double, RBI, two walks, two runs), Connor Houser (1 for 3, two RBIs on a single and a sacrifice fly), Kyle Garrett (1 for 2, RBI bunt single, walk) and Noah Cornwell (two runs).
