FARGO — Minnesota State Moorhead head coach Tim Bergstraser made a special delivery Tuesday afternoon at the Hjemkomst Center — before his team heads to Kansas.

The Dragons recently won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's basketball tournament title. Bergstraser presented the tournament championship trophy to Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson.

MSUM (23-8) earned the No. 2 seed in the Central Region of the NCAA Division II tournament. The The Dragons play No. 7 seed Fort Hays State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, in the opening round of the national tournament.

Bergstraser and other MSUM representatives, including President Dr. Tim Downs, drove the "Dragon Wagon" to the Hjemkomst on Tuesday for the symbolic trophy presentation.

Carlson was also given Dragons gear that she can present to Minot Mayor Tom Ross as a consolation prize. The Dragons defeated Minot State for the NSIC men's tournament crown. The two mayors had a social media wager on which team would win the game. MSUM and Carlson earned the victory.

Carlson won two jars of Ross' "award-winning" pickles and a pass to the North Dakota State Fair.
