CINCINNATI (WXIX) -New Cincinnati Bengals player and former Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims spoke to the public for the first time after the team picked him Thursday night during the NFL Draft.

Mims was the No. 18 pick for the Bengals.

At 6-foot-8 and 340 pounds, Mims is a “rare-sized athlete” the team was thrilled to get when it was the Bengals’ turn to choose, said Head Coach Zac Taylor.

“I feel I play pretty physical, and I play patient,” Mims said. “Like in the game, you don’t want to get too anxious and try to overdo anything, especially as a lineman and a tackle too because I feel like you have pound for pound the best athlete on the field. So, in my opinion, you have to be aggressive, but sometimes you have to be patient because you have to know the guy you’re playing against.”

Mims stated he already talked with Trent Brown and Orlando Brown Jr. and is excited to learn from them and is excited to learn from the players before him.

In addition to his football skills, Mims says he always took pride in his education. He was a 3-time academic honor roll student.
