A Long-Time Harrison County Youth Baseball Coach, Russell Clarence Hefner, Jr., Passes Away at Age 70

Russell Clarence Hefner, Jr. 70, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Hopemont Hospital in Terra Alta, WV. Russell was born on May 28,1953, in Clarksburg, son of the late Russell Clarence Hefner, Sr. and Alice Dale Moore Hefner.
 
Russell was born and raised in the North View section of Clarksburg, was a graduate of Victory High School, and worked for Anchor Hocking glass factory for several years. He was a celebrated coach of both Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, having led the Clarksburg Nationals team to a regional Babe Ruth championship game in Indiana in 1981. He was baptized in the Christian faith at Barnes Memorial Baptist Church, and later attended Bethel Temple Church in Bridgeport, where he sang in the choir.
 
Russell is survived by two daughters, Emily and Andrea, their husbands and nine grandchildren.
 
In addition to his parents, Russell is preceded in death by siblings, Charles “Rasty” Edward Hefner, Donald “Donnie” Hefner, and his adoring and incredibly loving sister, Carla Jan Hefner, who helped care for him all the days of her life.
 
Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Interment will be held at Waterloo Cemetery in French Creek, WV. Online condolences can be made at www.DavisFuneralHomeWV.com. Davis Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hefner family.
