FARGO — During the regular season, North Dakota State defensive tackle Javier Derritt figured his career was going to be over after this season. No longer.

After a standout postseason that got the attention of some FBS programs, Derritt decided to use his extra year of eligibility because of the pandemic and will play at the University of Kansas.

He made his commitment known on Thurday with a social media post. Derritt had multiple FBS offers including USC, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado State, Coastal Carolina and California.

“I was completely baffled that I was getting some of the offers that I’ve gotten,” Derritt told The Forum. “Once that first one rolled in, it all snowballed from there.”

His decision came after former Univeristy of North Dakota quarterback Tommy Schuster has found a new home at Michigan State, he announced Sunday, Jan. 7, via social media.

In late November, Schuster declared his intent to spend his last year of eligibility elsewhere. The 6-foot, 195-pound Schuster set UND school records for passing yards, completions and touchdowns in his four-year career. He finished with 843 completions in 1,252 attempts for 9,075 yards and 63 touchdowns.

The transfer window closed for most FCS players on Jan. 2. North Dakota State had six players enter the transfer portal in recent weeks.

In other portal news, Missouri State wide receiver Raylen Sharpe has decided to stay put after entering the transfer portal in early December.

On Dec. 15, Sharpe announced he decided to return to the Bears. He caught 73 passes for 991 yards and seven touchdowns this past fall.

A former University of North Dakota offensive lineman landed with an FBS program in the Big 12 Conference.

Easton Kilty signed with Kansas State on Wednesday, Dec. 20, after spending the previous four seasons at UND. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Kilty had multiple offers from big-time FBS programs. Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman is a former North Dakota State head coach.

It's second former UND offensive lineman to land with an FBS program in December.

Brayden Bryant announced Thursday, Dec. 7, via social media he committed to play for San Diego State. The 6-foot-2, 305-pound Bryant declared in October he was entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. In 2022, Bryant was named to the All-Missouri Valley Football Conference newcomer team. Bryant played in four games for UND this fall.

The winter transfer portal officially opened Monday, Dec. 4, for NCAA Division I football. Players can return to their current teams.

Southern Illinois linebacker Branson Combs — who had 85 tackles for a stingy Salukis defense — announced he was entering the transfer portal Monday, Dec. 4. Combs later signed with Wake Forest at the start or the early signing period.

The following players from Missouri Valley Football Conference teams have declared for the transfer portal. The list includes players who entered the portal after Oct. 1.
