Seaman, Topeka High baseball bow out of state tournament in quarterfinals

The Kansas high school state baseball tournament began play Thursday at sites around the state.

Topeka High and Seaman baseball represented the Topeka-area schools competing in the postseason. Here's how they did.

Seaman and Topeka High baseball exit in state quarterfinals

Seaman

The Seaman baseball team entered state as the No. 4 seed in 5A, taking on No. 5 Eisenhower (18-4) and falling 7-0 on Thursday to conclude its season.

Despite the early exit from state, was another successful year for the Vikings, winning 18 games to just five losses on the way to breaking the state record for consecutive state appearances in a row.

That streak reached 19 this year, beating Kansas City Wyandotte's record that stood from 1949-1966.

Topeka High

A dream season for No. 4 seed Topeka High (16-7) ended in the 6A state quarterfinals in Lawrence against No. 5 Derby (15-8), 9-0.

After reaching the regional finals the past few years, Topeka High got over the hump in style this year, winning the regional title in a run-rule win to reach the first state tournament for the program in decades.
