The towering success of Derek Jeter on the baseball diamond turned him into a legendary athlete. However, most iconic sports persons hold interests beyond their respective professions. Oftentimes, those interest zones are outside the sporting realm itself. On a similar note, Jeter is no exception.

Derek Jeter played throughout his epic MLB career as a New York Yankees loyalist. Fielding as a shortstop, he established a reputation as one of the best players in that position. He is a 14-time All-Star member and five-time World Series champion. His glorious playing tenure got rewarded with an MLB Hall Of Fame honor post-retirement.

Back in 2009, Jeter acted in a film titled ‘The Other Guys.’ The film had famous actors, Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell in the lead. Another popular figure among the cast was WWE superstar turned actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The story of the film revolves around two detectives played by Wahlberg and Ferrell.

The two protagonists vow to fight corruption, but their plans go awry. In the film, Wahlberg’s character once mistakenly shoots Jeter in a tunnel during a scene. As Jeter, playing himself, gets injured by a bullet during a World Series game, the Yankees lose. Therefore, Wahlberg’s character gets named ‘The Yankee Clipper’ for his actions.

As a result of the bullet wound, Jeter retires and turns into a drifter. He appears later in a deleted scene in an unrecognizable appearance with long hair. Jeter meets both Wahlberg and Ferrell to share secret information and says, “So here’s you guys’ next case. Guy by the name of Carl Bachand, CEO of Killister Bank. He took $3 billion in TARP funds. He’s crooked. He’s real crooked.”

The overall response to the film

The film received positive reviews from the audience and critics. Director Adam McKay in particular was highly impressed by Jeter’s attitude and dedication. Jeter was fresh off from a World Series victory. But after just ten days of the championship, Jeter took up the acting assignment.
