Ex-slugger Sammy Sosa happy with lighter skin and doesn't care what you think of it

Sammy Sosa continues to make headlines nowadays, not for his past baseball accomplishments but rather his appearance.

And the former Chicago Cubs outfielder doesn’t care what you think about it.

Sosa’s skin tone is now drastically lighter compared to when he was a slugger on the diamond. His once dark brown skin is now a creamy white hue.

In a 2009 interview on Univison’s Primer Impacto program, Sosa admitted to using bleaching cream to whiten his skin.

“It’s a bleaching cream that I apply before going to bed and whitens my skin some,” Sosa said at the time. “It’s a cream that I have, that I use to soften (my skin), but has bleached me some. I’m not a racist, I live my life happily,”

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, the native of the Dominican Republic addressed criticism of his appearance, stating he lives life the way he wants to.

“Look at what I am today,” Sosa said. “This is my life, and I don’t take garbage from nobody. I do whatever I want.”

Since retiring from professional baseball in 2009, Sosa moved to the United Arab Emirates, where he told the magazine he immersed himself in oil, real estate and hospitality ventures.

Sosa was reportedly kicked to the curb by the Cubs after allegedly using steroids. SI reported Sosa would be welcome back to the Windy City clubhouse if he admitted to using performance-enhancing substances and offered an apology.

To this day, Sosa denies taking steroids.

“I never failed a drug test,” Sosa said. “So why are you asking me about that, when they don’t have nothing on Sosa?”

Sosa’s Major League Baseball career spanned 18 years – 13 seasons with the Cubs and also spending time with the Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers. The 49-year-old is one of nine players in MLB history to hit 600 career home runs.
