Cuban team loses at the final of the Baseball Champions League

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 14 (ACN) The Leñadores de Las Tunas, representing Cuba, lost 6-1 to the hosts Diablos Rojos of Mexico and finished runners-up in the 2nd edition of the Baseball Champions League.

The disciples of Abeyci Pantoja, who had imposed terror in the Mexican city with a brutal offense that managed to score 74 runs in only four challenges, could not impose their law on Sunday on the grass of the Alfredo Harp Helu Stadium, against the undefeated and favorite Scarlets.

Early on, the Diablos struck first with solo home runs by veterans Robinson Cano and Jose Rondon off the bat of starter Andy Vargas, an advantage that proved to be more than enough.

Cubans could not figure out anything from starter Jose Luis Bravo in four innings, in which he struck out five and did not allow any liberties. After his outing, Cuba managed to score one with a ticket, a double by Roel Santos and an infield single by Yoelquis Guibert.

The locals, with 16 titles in the Mexican League, responded in the fifth inning with two more runs, which brought Vargas out of the box after another hit by Cano (he hit four in the game) and a run-scoring hit by Jose Marmolejos.

The "Marabunta Roja" added another in the seventh against Yankiel Mauris, and one more in the eighth against Albert Valladares, completing the work.

The closing was in the hands of Japanese Tomohiro Anraku, US player Trevor Clifton and closer Stephen Nogosek, who were in charge of locking the game and the aspirations of the Cubans.
