The former Sears at the Mall of Louisiana is seen Wednesday, April 24, 2024, in Baton Rouge, La. The site is slated to become a Dick's House of Sport, a new store model launched by the sporting goods chain. It gives customers a chance to try products by offering things such as batting cages for baseball and softball, a putting area for golf, rock climbing walls and a variety of turfs to try out soccer and football cleats.

The interior of the former Sears store at the Mall of Louisiana is being demolished to turn it into a Dick's House of Sport.

Dick's House of Sport is a new store model launched by the national chain. It gives customers a chance to try products by offering things such as batting cages for baseball and softball, rock climbing walls and a variety of turfs to try out soccer and football cleats.

Dick's House of Sport stores are over 100,000 square feet, about five times larger than typical Dick's Sporting Goods locations. There are 12 Dick's House of Sport locations in the U.S. and plans to open eight more during the year.

Go Green Construction of Pittsburgh is the general contractor for the work, which involves removing escalators, taking off part of the roof and adding an elevator.
